ABOUT US: Black Arts Festical (BAF) is a public arts and cultural festival founded and run by the Black Arts & Cultural Center of Kalamazoo. Since 1986, the festival has hosted artists from across the globe and brought hundreds of businesses to the downtown area — creating a cultural destination in our community.

Throughout the festival, BAF showcased the artists’ talents alongside musicians, local artists and many other community organizations.

BAF is made possible by the support of it’s planning team members, partners, sponsors, board members, volunteers and community.

The Black Arts & Cultural Center is excited to celebrate our 35th festival live and in person this year. Covid safety guidelines will be in place to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.


Virtual Art Experience

During the entire month of July, West Michigan app users can discover augmented reality art experiences created by diverse youth and adults. Enjoy finding art codes as you take a stroll through downtown Kalamazoo. 

Receive push notification to your device as you enter an area with augmented art experiences from our mobile app.

Youth Day

A safe grassroots focused event in the Northside Kalamazoo Community. Packed with career driven artistic development programs and memorable experiences for our younger generation.

Youth will experience African art & dance, VR experiences, spray painting and drawing. Free entertainment and free food for everyone.

Summer youth programs, parents and families are encouraged to attend this free event Friday July 9th, 11am – 4pm. Douglass Community Association, 1000 W Paterson St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007

Festival Day

A safe music festival for all ages & demographics where we celebrate black culture and raise awareness around equity. Hosted at Arcadia Creek Festival Place.

Capacity is limited to 500 people in the park at once. You are encouraged to bring seating, chairs, blankets to enjoy the all day & night entertainment.

The festival is FREE 10am – 5pm, after 5pm there is a $35 fee to enter the park to control capacity during this prime hour. All fees are donated towards our capital campaign

Come shop vendors, eat great food and enjoy a day of entertainment July 10, 2021 from 10am – Midnight.
