Always wanted to learn how to play Jazz?
Learn and perform with mentors on standards, large ensemble classics, new music and their own original compositions. The objective of this program is to support the development of young jazz artists in their musicianship, as composers, as music conductors, and as entrepreneurs. The fellowship also includes community and educational service opportunities and training, as well as headlining their own concerts in venues across the city of Kalamazoo and beyond.
Gail Sydnor Artistic Development Grant is funded through annual fundraising & grants to develop artist of color in Kalamazoo. The grant is designed to support individual artists in their endeavor to develop themselves and their art through projects or professional development. Attention is paid, and weight is given, to the artistic merit of a project, or how a professional development opportunity will help further an artist’s career. There are two separate categories for this grant: Professional Development and Project Support.
