A Delicious Conversation about Black Love

Sep 22,2018 - Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Couples, Singles, Men and Women join in on the delicious conversation about relationships. The discussion will be hosted by our featured poet and artist Remi Harrington at the Black Arts & Cultural Center with delicious refreshments. The conversation will discuss the role that popular culture plays in guiding our social and cultural landscape while relating it to the sociological imagination. Are certain women "pick me" or genuinely humble for love? Do you have experience with toxic masculinity under the guise of faith and religion? Let's explore our traditional values around relationships.

September Film Viewing & Discussion: D-Town

Sep 7,2018 - Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
D-TOWN is a documentary about the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network and how they use their farm, D-TownFarm, to cultivate healthy, locally-grown foods for black communities in Detroit, as well as educate and promote community engagement and participation in the politics of food production. So many black communities are poverty-stricken and do not have access to fresh, locally-grown produce. This documentary will show how DBCFSN is being a leader in the food movement and ensuring that black people who live in food deserts have access to adequate, affordable, nutritious foods. The film will be shown consecutively between 5pm and 8pm with a short discussion following each showing. This event is free. Don't miss it!
